When I first started blogging as The Mumologist back in 2011 (this is my first ever blog!) one of my core aims was to raise awareness of the common problems, dilemmas and issues that faced people from pregnancy through to the early years of parenting. At that time I was very women-focused (these were the days we were only just considering how to get dads and partners more involved, let alone opening up our tiny minds to the fact that not all people who go through pregnancy are women….) I remember writing that my hope was that, at some point, people would be so aware of these common issues they wouldn’t need people like me. They would, instead, be supportive of one another, we’d have things in place to prevent issues like isolation, lack of practical support, overwhelm. The need for therapy - for what was so often socially-created problems - would vanish.
